Get Smart for the Holidays

November 29, 2007

According to the Consumer Electronics Association, sales for electronics are expected to be up 7 percent to over $48 billion in the fourth quarter this year. Of course, a large portion of that is holiday gifts. In fact, the association says gadgets like computers and TVs top consumers’ wish lists.

In fact, computers and televisions were at the top of consumers’ lists with other things like peace and happiness. This just shows the huge role technology plays in our daily lives. Ok let’s talk about some smart buys. I’d really like a new phone for Christmas, so what should I ask Santa for?

There are two smart phones I really like for this holiday season. The first is the Blackberry 8310. It’s packed with some great features including a camera, multi-media player, built-in GPS and expandable memory. It also has the core functions you’re come to expect from smartphones like e-mail, text messaging and web browser. It’s really lightweight and easy to carry around. What really makes this phone so great, is that the software and receiver for GPS is already IN the phone, so there is no need to have TWO devices in your car. Your phone works as a GPS system. Killing two birds with one stone. And you should see how this thing works. Has a current location, miles and time to destination, and you can find the nearest gas station based on PRICE!

The AT&T Tilt Phone is another smartphone with a PDA, GPS software, music and video players, still and video cameras, Web browser, and the usual e-mail and phone capabilities. As you can see, you slide the screen up and out, and turn the phone on its side. The screen automatically adjusts itself from portrait to landscape mode. This phone really has every program and feature you could imagine. I have this phone and I wouldn’t leave home without it!

Not very tech savvy? That’s ok, must of us don’t fully understand everything our phones can do. I recommend visiting a Hawk location in the Metroplex where an expert can teach you how to make the most of your phone or any other gadget.

This other phone is the Motorolla Q and a lot of the intimidation factor is taken out by the fact that this phones runs off of Windows Mobile. This allows anyone to get into the smartphone because it works a lot like your computer at home or at the office. You know a lot of people tell me “I just learned how to use my computer, I don’t want to have to learn a whole new thing” and this phone helps with that.

And I want to be sure to remind people about the Mobile Mom Makeover contest where one lucky mom will win a back up camera, Bluetooth kit, remote start and DVD player headrests for her car. We’re now done accepting entries and the winner of Hawk’s Mobile Mom contest will be featured on an upcoming segment on Channel 8 WFAA!
